My Rating: Not sure if I'm going to pick up another book by Jennifer Lynn Barnes due to being a little bit disappointed by the Inheritance Games. But maybe it is something for you! This book is actually the start of a new series!
Ā 3. Breaking The Dark - Lisa Jewell (Marvel Crime #1)
Release Date:Ā 04.07.2024
Summary:Ā Meet Jessica Jones: Retired super hero, private investigator, loner. She tried her best to be a shiny spandex crimefighter, but that life only led to unspeakable trauma. Now she avoids that world altogether and works on surviving day-to-day in Hellās Kitchen, New York.
The morning a distraught mother comes into her office, Jessica would prefer to nurse her hangover and try to forget last nightās poor choices. But something about Amber Randallās story strikes a chord with her. Amber is adamant that something happened to her teenage twins while they were visiting their father in the UK. The twins donāt act like themselves, and they now have flawless skin, have lost their distinctive tics and habits, and keep talking about a girl named Belle. Amber insists her children have been replaced by something horrible, something āperfect.ā
Traveling to a small village in the British countryside, Jessica meets the mysterious Belle, who lives a curiously isolated life in an old farmhouse with a strange woman who claims to be her guardian. Can this unworldly teenager really be responsible for the Randall twinsā new personas? Why does the strange little village of Barton Wallop seem to harbor dark energies and mysteries in its tight-knit community?
A motherās intuition is never wrong. And Jessica knows that nothing in life is perfectānot these kids, not her on-again, off-again relationship with Luke Cage, and certainly not Jessica herself. But even as she tries to buy into the idea that better days are ahead, Jessica Jones has seen all too clearly that behind every promise of perfection trails a dark, dangerous shadow. (Goodreads)
Pages: 384
My Rating: Definitely going with this one, after reading three books by Lisa Jewell (The Family Upstairs, The Family Remains, None of This is True) and loving all of them! I am obsessed with her writing style that makes you shiver even though it's not brutal (most of the time).
Ā 4. The Wedding People - Alison Espach

Summary:Ā It's a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but sheās actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isnāt here for the big event. Phoebe is here because sheās dreamt of coming for yearsāshe hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she's here without him. Meanwhile, the bride has accounted for every detail and every possible disaster the weekend might yield except for, well, Phoebeāwhich makes it that much more surprising when the women canāt stop confiding in each other. Ā 5. Play Along - Liz Tomforde (Windy City #4)
Release Date:Ā 11.07.2024
Summary:Ā
Kennedy
Iām the only woman on staff for the Windy City Warriors, and after years of putting up with a sexist lead doctor, Iām desperate to land my dream job with a new team next year. All I have to do is maintain my professional reputation for my final season in Chicago.
But a Las Vegas run-in with the teamās shortstop threatens it all, leaving me with a fuzzy memory and a ring on my left hand.
Now, not only am I legally bound to the most persistent man Iāve ever met, but thanks to Isaiahās scheme to save my job, I have to pretend the whole thing was a planned elopement and not a drunken mistake.
Isaiah Rhodes is reckless, impulsive, and frustratingly charming. Heās also my brand-new husband.
They got the saying wrong. What happens in Vegas doesnāt always stay in Vegas⦠sometimes it follows you right back home.
Isaiah
As the shortstop for Chicagoās professional baseball team, Iāve had my fair share of fun. But that all ended the day Kennedy Kay became a single woman.
Iāve crushed on the teamās athletic trainer for years. Iāve flirted to no avail, so imagine my surprise when I woke up in Sin City with a ring on my finger and my favorite redhead in my bed.
We agree to stay married for one baseball season, just long enough to keep her job safe, but in my mind, Iām using our time together to prove to her Iām husband material.
Kennedy might be reluctant to join in on our game, but itās one I refuse to lose.
So come on, wife⦠play along. (Goodreads)
